Based in Merseyside, UK, Focal Studios is an interdisciplinary creative agency that provides holistic solutions through a wide range of services, including video production, projection mapping, immersive experience design, and multimedia installations. With extensive experience in creating powerful, engaging visual stories, we've worked on a wide range of projects in the third sector, marketing, and corporate communications.

Our team of experts includes highly skilled professionals in all areas of production, from concept development to post-production. We have access to high-end cameras and editing suites, as well as offering extensive post-production services, including motion graphics, colour grading, audio composition, audio mixing, VFX, and 2D/3D animation.

  • Dennis Outten

    CO-FOUNDER | MANAGING DIRECTOR

    A multidisciplinary, international artist driven by his passion for collaborative innovation, his work skilfully harnesses technology in immersive storytelling and installation artworks. He has a wide range of interests from aerial cinematography, animation, and film making, but focuses his expertise in virtual set design and 3D projection mapping.

    Dennis graduated in 2012 with a first-class degree in Fine Art at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), where he is now also completing an MA in Immersive Media.

    He has over 12yrs experience running or working with creative organisations, such as The Lemon Collective, AND Festival, Marshmallow Laser Feast, IronBird and Lantern Company. His multifaceted career as a creative technologist has led to working on many large and small scale innovative projects, in the UK and across Europe.

  • Jessica Leigh Windell

    CO-FOUNDER | CREATIVE DIRECTOR

    A skilled Digital Project Manager and Creative Director with extensive experience in technical and creative fields. With a first-class degree in Film, Photography, and Media from the University of Leeds, she has delivered exceptional digital projects for diverse clients, including Liverpool City Council, Visa, and Leeds Light Night.

    Jessica is an expert in collaborating with cross-functional teams, scoping projects, negotiating budgets, and managing timelines to ensure project success. As a client-centric Creative Director, she provides innovative solutions that exceed objectives and expectations.

THE TEAM

Our team members are self-motivated and passionate astute professionals who love their craft. We are used to working under tight deadlines, outside of regular hours, and delivering projects on short notice. We regularly work outdoors in all weather conditions and take pride in the level of preparation and planning undertaken to ensure that both ourselves and our clients are comfortable. As a highly personable team from diverse backgrounds, we are capable of putting clients or interviewees at ease.


James Hooton

Head of Immersive Media

James likes cameras and interactive tech! He has a first-class BA degree in Media Production and a first-class MA in Immersive Media.

James is passionate about editing, animation, and creating immersive and interactive experiences. James has experience with building computers, fixing computers and networking.

Laura Sullivan

Installation Artist

Laura Sullivan is a talented mixed-media artist specialising in; installations for virtual stage sets, painting and, face and body art.

With a 1st class BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art she has years of experience in the industry running workshops.

She’s a dab hand at co-ordinating events, creating stunning set designs and mobilising the team into action!

Chris Howard

SFX Artist | Composer

Chris is a multi-instrumentalist composer whose passion for music and creativity borders on obsession. After dabbling in multi-track recording at age 9, Chris was later offered a Composition Scholarship at Berklee College of Music in Boston! 

He is passionate about combining audio with visual and technological elements to create fully immersive emotive experiences.

Together we can share knowledge, resources, and create new initiatives to benefit the whole sector.
