Brathay Trust
Explore how we created an immersive celebration of Brathay Trust’s history, people and achievements. Set on the edge of Lake Windermere, the historic Brathay Hall became the backdrop for the organisation’s story. We celebrated its legacy of inspiring young people and transforming lives through adventure and learning, with an experience centred around light, projection and storytelling.
80 years of brathay
To mark Brathay Trust’s 80th anniversary, we collaborated with Leo and Hyde on a digital storytelling production, funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, celebrating eight decades of pioneering outdoor learning.
Set against the historic frontage of Brathay Hall in the heart of the Lake District, the large-scale projection transformed the building into a canvas for Brathay remarkable story. Combining archive footage, historic photographs and interviews, the production brought together the people, places and experiences that have shaped the Trust since its beginnings in 1946.
The project celebrated Brathay’s enduring impact on generations of young people and communities, connecting its rich heritage with its ambitions for the future. Through an engaging and emotionally resonant visual experience, we brought the values at the heart of Brathay’s work to life in the very place where its story unfolded.
Spanning two evenings, the event opened with an exclusive preview for Brathay’s trustees and ambassador, Fatima Whitbread, ahead of the main community celebration. More than 500 people attended the public event, bringing together local residents and those whose lives had been touched by Brathay for a day of games, free activities and live music. As evening fell, audiences gathered to watch Brathay’s story unfold across the Hall, in a unique celebration of its past, present and future.
